Holy Trinity Catholic Primary School is a Design-Build green field development for the Catholic Diocese of Auckland, in response to the growing community at Takanini. The Diocese came to Scarbro Construction and consultants Ignite Architects and Babbage with a challenge – to build the school starting in June 2016, with the school needing to be open at the start of February 2017 – about half the time many schools are built in. Utilising our wealth of experience, smart labour and procurement strategies, and excellent subcontractor relationships, Scarbro were able to deliver a high-quality school on time to a very happy client and school community.
The school is built on a particularly challenging site, as much of the Papakura district is former peat swamps. As such, the structural steel framed buildings are cleverly engineered to mitigate the effects of any land settlement. The site design also incorporates rain gardens and extensive permeable paving. In conjunction with sister company Scarbro Civil, extensive land remediation was carried out before construction of the school buildings.
The buildings themselves include a large hall/multipurpose space, an administration block, and a two-level Modern Learning Environment space with room for up to 240 children in flexible spaces including break-out rooms, performance spaces, and integrated technology. Scarbro Construction are proud to have provided the community with a fantastic asset and look forward to our next education project.
